Ingredients

  • Paneer - You can use frozen paneer cubes as well as fresh paneer. I have tried both and my vote is for fresh paneer as it stays soft even after cooling down.
  • Spice powders - You can add or omit as per your personal preference. But since paneer can be bland, make sure to use more spice powders. Especially I love chaat masala the most.
  • Sauce & lemon - Both of them are really important for an elevated taste, otherwise it may taste flat or over powdered with spice powders. The sweet taste from tomato chilli sauce and tanginess from lemon balances the masala powders.

Variations

Chilli paneer sandwich

  • Cut the capsicum and onion into cubes. Use soya sauce along and make stuffing taste more like chilli paneer for a change.

Schezwan paneer sandwich

  • Schezwan sauce can be used in place of chilli tomato sauce, for a nice twist. You can use store bought schezwan chutney too for quick version.

Paneer tikka sandwich

Got leftover paneer tikka? Make it as paneer tikka sandwich. You can also make paneer tikka marinade especially for this.

Use whole grain bread for healthier choice. Do check out my creamy spinach cheese sandwich as well as yummy Pesto paneer sandwich recipe.

My notes

I used griller plate but can use regular sandwich maker too as triangles.

This is the first time I am making paneer sandwich. Weird right😝? I always had a thought paneer sandwich could be dry and not as tasty as sandwiches with cheese.

Just make sure using good quality paneer or homemade ones. Fresh paneer yields softer results than frozen.

But this one was tasting really great and Aj too loved it.

After years of packing pizza sandwich in his lunch box and not getting convinced for any other sandwich, finally he told he can take this.

So here's my version and I know many of you look for this specific sandwich in my blog.

FAQs

Can I add cheese to paneer sandwich?

Yes! Though paneer is also a type of cheese and did not use cheese in this sandwich, you can definitely add grated cheese to make it more delicious.
But since paneer sandwich calories is already higher and it is tasty by itself, I avoid cheese.

How to make paneer sandwich on tawa?

Follow the same steps as you do in a sandwich maker. Instead of toasting in a sandwich maker:
Heat a tawa firstly and put it in low flame.
Then grease with little ghee or butter, evenly.
Place the sandwich over it.
Press gently on top using a spatula. You can also place a heavy flat bottomed pan over the sandwich. This ensures even browning with fantastic crispy results.
Apply butter or ghee over the top evenly.
Flip gently and again press gently or place a pan over it to ensure even browning.

Notes

  • I used kohinoor paneer if frozen or Milky mist and Suvai (SG brand) if fresh paneer.
  • I crumble paneer with hands, but you can give it a run in mixer too.
  • You can add vegetables of your choice too like sweet corn, peas etc.
  • Chaat masala has salt, so adjust the amount of salt that goes in.
  • Do not use more oil than mentioned otherwise it could become too oily.
