Thai mango shake recipe – or mamuang pan – is the perfect summer refreshment, with sweet ripe mango, sugar syrup, and coconut milk served in a cool glass.

Thai Mango Shake Recipe (Mamuang Pan) – Hungry in Thailand (1)

Summer is approaching in Thailand, and Thai people love to cool down with iced drinks like Thai tea, mango bubble tea, and roselle juice.

At food markets, you’ll find lots of delicious, cool refreshments. I personally love fruit smoothies, especially pineapple and mango. This Thai fruit drink recipe shows you how to make a mango shake at home.

It’s so easy to make, and the best thing is that you can easily adjust the sugar level to make it healthier or sweeter.

What is mango shake

Nam jim jaew is a classic Thai dipping sauce with a spicy, sweet, and sour taste. It’s made with fish sauce, sugar, and lime, perfect for grilled meats.

In Thailand, it’s known as mamuang pan. Mamuang is Thai for mango and pan is mix. So, mamuang pan refers to mixed mango.

Mango drink

When it’s super hot outside, a chilled mango drink is like heaven.

I topped mixed ripe mangoes with coconut milk, but if coconut milk is not your thing, don’t worry. You can also make this drink with other types of milk. Fresh milk, almond milk, soy milk, or even oat milk.

If you’re watching your sugar intake, or you’re craving something sweet, you can easily adjust the amount of sugar. This versatile mango recipe lets you customize the drink to your liking.

And by the way, you can also make this with other fruits! Bananas, strawberries, or even pineapples can be used. It’s also perfect for using up those leftover fruits in your fridge.

All that deliciousness comes together in less than 10 minutes. It’s perfect for kids and great for family gatherings during summer. Share it with your loved ones and make those warm moments even better.

  • Mango – The best mango for a mango shake is ripe and sweet, like Alphonso, Honey mangoes, or golden mango (nam dok mai mango). They should feel slightly soft to the touch, indicating that they’re ripe.
  • Sugar syrup – You can use store-bought sugar syrup for fast fruit shakes, or simply make it at home by boiling water and sugar until the sugar dissolves. Cool it down before using.
  • Coconut milk – I use coconut milk for topping the mango shake. This adds a creamy finish to the drink that swirls into the mixed mango – so delicious!
  • Ice – To make your yellow fruit shake refreshingly cold, you can use ice cubes or crushed ice.

Mango recipe variations

Mango yogurt shake: Substitute coconut milk with yogurt to make a thicker, protein-rich variation that’s perfect for breakfast.

Vegan mango shake: Coconut milk is vegan, but you can also use almond milk or oat milk. Swap the sugar for a vegan alternative of your choice, like agave syrup.

Mango sago drink: Simply add boiled sago pearls to your finished drink.

Ice cream shake: In Belgium, my husband often went to the gym and sometimes, to gain weight, he’d add vanilla ice cream to his fruit shakes. They taste great but watch out, they’re high in calories!

Fruit variations: You can add lots of different fruits to your mango shake, like banana, pineapple, peach, strawberry, and berries.

Delicious ways to serve fruit shake

Once your fruit shake is ready, you can top it with diced mangoes or other fruits, and optionally a leaf of mint for color contrast. Personally, I like to have a refreshing mango shake with a spicy Thai salad. Som tum Thai, yum woon sen, and Thai mango salad are some of my favorites. For something sweeter, you can pair it with Thai mango sticky rice.
